Hot Spring

00 / Project Description

Hotspring is a jewelry collection based on the theme of liquid geometry and negative space. Created as a collection of three-piece includes an open contoured ring, a hollow-core cluster pendant and a pair of mismatched drop earrings. The creation features a matrix of aquamarine cabochons and faceted blue topaz stones held within organic, pocketed enclosures. The entire framework is constructed from sterling silver and Rhodium finish, delivering an elevation that maximizes stone surface area while maintaining an accessible cost.

01 / MOOD EXPLORATION

The creative direction explored the physical properties of thermal water specifically the floating patterns of rising steam and trapped gas bubbles. The concept didn’t follow traditional, symmetrical jewelry layouts. Placing aquamarine alongside clear blue topaz, the collection achieves a balanced contrast between opaque and translucent textures. A concept of minimalist yet conversational jewelry, offers a clean, mineral-inspired palette that provides a sense of calm and escape from the noise of daily life.

02 / HAND SKETCHING

Relaxing in that serene environment allowed the design ideas to surface, once back at the studio, these sketches came flowing onto the paper. Sketches prioritized the structural integration of textures, plotting the exact placement of stones. The focus was entirely on translating the behavior of rising heat and water currents into open metal frameworks. The earrings were intentionally created to be mismatched to mimic how bubbles rise in two different thermal ponds relating that in nature, no two natural elements are ever identical.

03 / PRECISION BLUEPRINT

Production specs explicitly detailed every measurement, stone count, millimetre size and placement. The primary manufacturing challenge lay in collaborating with the manufacturer, who were heavily accustomed to traditional symmetrical pieces due to a market that typically demands rigid perfection. Pushing past this barrier required constant back-and-forth communication to guide the team through handling and placing unmatched gems with irregular forms.

04 / GOUACHE RENDERING

Illustration from gouache rendering displayed on how each stone placement, shapes arrangement and desired outcome. It was during this rendering phase that the positioning and shape for the ring were finalized at last minute, with the vertical orientation ultimately chosen to maximize hand ergonomics and visual impact.
